SIGTUNA MUSEUM
BORGMÄSTARGÅRDEN

Location: Sigtuna
Year: 2023

AF-L, in collaboration with Lovisa Willborg Jonsson, designed a permanent outdoor exhibition, including content, for the historical house museum Borgmästaregården, belonging to Sigtuna Museum. The villa, designed by architect Uno Åhrén, was the former residence of Sigtuna’s last mayor, Gustaf Dahl.

The concept aims to bring out the fantastic architecture of Borgmästaregården into the garden. Five stations are placed around the house, creating a playful exploration of various themes related to the villa. The stations sometimes serve other functions, such as portals or seating areas. The playfulness encourages movement around the house, with the goal of sparking curiosity as visitors enter the house to explore further. Once inside, the play becomes a quest for each visitor to find an element from each theme. By playfully generating interest in the house, the hope is to foster curiosity about the life that unfolded within its walls and the mayor as an individual.
